BMV080

Bosch’s BMV080 is the World’s smallest particulate matter sensor, also known as a PM2.5 air quality sensor. This device measures atmospheric particulates or fine dust with diameters down to 0.5 µm, the concentration of which is a common proxy indicator for air pollution levels that may be damaging to health or sensitive manufacturing processes, for example. The BMV080 enables PM2.5 measurement within a mass concentration range of 0-1000 µg/m3 at a resolution of 1 µg/m3 with a maximum output data rate of 1 Hz.

Bosch’s PM2.5 sensor uses an innovative fanless design that measures only 4.2 x 3.5 x 3 mm (excluding flex PCB), 450 times smaller (by volume) than any comparable market-ready device. Instead of traditional measurement techniques, Bosch’s device is based on ultra-compact Class 1 laser technology with integrated photodiodes. With the help of algorithms, PM2.5 concentration can be directly measured in free space so that action can be taken in real-time to ensure safety and integrity in your application environment.

The lack of a fan means there is no dust build-up over many measurement cycles, and this significantly reduces the probability of device malfunction. The result is a reliable, non-intrusive, noiseless, maintenance-free air quality sensor that can be used in previously unviable indoor and outdoor deployments for applications including air quality monitors in subways and fireplaces, smart thermostats, smart air purifiers, HVAC & air ventilation systems, wearables, and other ultra-compact IoT devices.
